Labs
This page extends the course memo with more information specific to the computer labs in this course.
Sign up & submissions
You should work on the labs in pairs. For this, you need to sign up for a lab group together with your lab partner. This can be done on Webreg (note that we’re using the page for 732A81 for the entire course):
For submitting your labs, use the Lisam submissions functionality.
For feedback & grading of the labs, go to the Webreg page.
- Note that while you should work in pairs, the Lisam submissions are individual. This is because the last part of each lab notebook is an individual reflection that you should write yourself, without your lab partner. Make sure that everything above the individual reflection is identical to your lab partner’s notebook!
- Don’t forget to sign up in Webreg! This is where we will track who works together, and it is also where you will get your feedback.
We do not have the capacity for the extra workload that comes from students working alone. If you insist on working alone, and do not have special needs that require you to do so, you accept that you may not receive timely feedback on your submissions during the course. We will prioritize submissions from students working in pairs, and postpone feedback on your submissions to the end of the course. This may mean less time to fix problems and work on the resubmission.
Please see the information under lab due dates.
Running the labs
Labs come in the form of Jupyter Notebooks using Python. On the lab computers, we provide a virtual environment that you should activate before starting to work on the labs:
We are still in the process of updating the environment on the lab computers for 2026. It will be finished before the first scheduled lab session on 4/11, and the instructions here will be updated then.
Using your own computer
You can also download the labs from the public course repo. It contains a uv-managed environment that will allow you to run these labs on your own computer with the exact same software packages that we tested the labs with. See the README file in the repo for more information.
However, note the following:
Several labs are made to run on GPU. They have been tested on a RTX 3060 with 12GB VRAM and a RTX 4000 Ada with 20GB VRAM. If you do not have a GPU in your computer, or you have significantly less VRAM, you might not be able to run all labs.
We cannot provide any technical support if you run into problems specific to your own computer. If you run into technical issues that you cannot solve, please use the lab computers instead.
