Examination Modules

The course has the following examination modules:

To pass the course, you must have a passing grade on both modules. Your final grade is the grade on the project module. For examination dates, see important dates.

Practical assignments (LAB1)

The lab assignments test that you are able to (i) implement text mining methods and apply them to practical problems (ILO 1) and (ii) analyse and summarise results from text mining experiments (ILO 2).

Form of examination

This module is examined by a series of lab assignments, or “labs”, which are done in pairs; as well as written reflections on these assignments, which are done individually. Each lab assignment is examined based on a notebook with your code, while the reflection consists of brief, written answers to one or more questions related to the lab assignments.

Knowledge requirements

You implement the text mining methods that are covered in the course and apply them to pre-defined, small-scale problems according to given instructions. You analyse experimental results with given evaluation methods and summarise them with simple judgements.

Grade requirements

For a passing grade on this module, you need a “pass” on all labs, including reflections.

After each examination date, if you submitted (or re-submitted) any of the lab assignments for this date, you will receive a grade in Ladok. If you did not pass all the lab assignments, or if you are still missing some of the labs, your grade will be U/Fx (Fail). You can still pass the module by (re)submitting any remaining lab assignments for one of the additional examination dates, which will count as retaking the examination.

Project work (PRA1)

The project module touches upon all the intended learning outcomes of the course. In addition to ILOs 1 and 2, it also tests to what extent you are able to (i) identify, formulate and solve problems within the area of text mining (ILO 3), and (ii) clearly present and discuss the conclusions of a project work (ILO 4).

Form of examination

This module is examined by an individual written project report. For details about the project work, see the project pages.

Knowledge requirements

You identify and formulate a substantial text mining problem with some help from a teacher. You implement and apply suitable text mining methods to your problem, analyse experimental results with appropriate evaluation methods and summarise them with well-developed judgements. You clearly present and discuss the conclusions of your work.

Grade requirements

Please see the project assessment criteria for detailed information about grade requirements.
